James Mont (1904-1978)
Rumour has it that during the 1920s, mafia boss Frankie Yale hired James Mont to decorate his Brooklyn home after being impressed by Mont's lamp designs. When word got round of what a great job he had done, Mont's interior design skills were in demand by other mobsters, and soon by celebrities of the day such as Irving Berlin and Bob Hope (who was best man at his wedding). A great designer with a fiery temper, Mont was a design visionary with an exquisite eye.
